Snapshot Story

Attached to Castel Sant’Angelo in the middle of Rome is this walled walkway jutting out from the side of the castle. This fortified structure leads straight to St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican which you can see peeking above the tree line in the top left. When it was built, this path served as a security route in which the pope would be escorted from the Vatican to the castle when the city was under siege! A self-guided tour through the castle reveals many more historical details paired with beautiful views of the Italy’s capital.
